CHIROPRACTIC
Frequently asked questions
Is a chiropractor a doctor? What studies does he have?
Chiropractors obtain the University Degree of Chiropractic after 5 to 7 years of higher education. We are awarded the honorary title of Doctor of Chiropractic for our academic recognition at the ECU (European Chiropractors’ Union).
The beginning of the chiropractic curriculum is focused on studying the medical basis of the human body. Some of the specific courses in the chiropractic career include neurology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, immunology, radiology, nutrition and chiropractic care for special types of patients such as newborns or the elderly.
During the last two years of study, students become interns at the University clinic, where they must undergo a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical supervision with patients.
The studies end by passing a research thesis approved by a panel of experts in scientific research, by the faculty of the Master’s degree at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
If I don’t have pain, do I have to check my spine?
Did you know that only 10% of our nervous system has receptors on pain?
The pain or symptom is the last one to appear in the chain of events after a dysfunction of the body. Years can pass by with the inertia of the body that does not work in its best state but still continues to function, until one day an event occurs that overloads the nervous system (such as an emotional trauma, food poisoning or an accident) that triggers an alarm of the body through pain or other symptomatology.
At this time we are looking for a solution to improve, through a RE-ACTIVE decision, because now we have no alternative and the road to recovery is slower. When we act in a preventive way, we take a PRO-ACTIVE decision that allows us to limit illness and optimize health.
In Momentum Chiropractic we help sick people to recover their health, and healthy people to reach an optimal state of functioning.
Why is Chiropractic so little recognized in Spain?
Chiropractic is recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization) as the third primary health care profession in the world, after conventional medicine and dentistry.
It is practiced by 120,000 doctors of chiropractic mainly in the most advanced countries of the planet (North America, Australia and Western Europe). In many of these countries it was the results of studies on the cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care, which showed the superior benefits of chiropractic adjustments. Multiple analyzes demonstrate the great amount of economic benefits for the finances of the state that have motivated the integration of the chiropractic profession in the health system.
It is essential to ensure that, like us, your chiropractor is a member of the Spanish Chiropractic Association (AEQ), the entity that represents and regulates the profession in Spain.
CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
Frequently asked questions
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes, of course! Chiropractors are trained to make specific, safe and painless spinal adjustments; applying the necessary force at the right contact to move only the appropriate segment. During their studies, they require a minimum of 1000 hours of practice with clinical supervision.
At Momentum Chiropractic we train every day to provide patients with high quality chiropractic adjustments.
In our center you will find a dossier with a compilation of the most relevant research of the profession in the last 15 years, including studies on the safety of chiropractic adjustments.
What is the difference between a manipulation (other manual therapies) and a chiropractic adjustment?
A manipulation is a general movement applied to several segments at once, taking the joints beyond their functional (physiological) range of motion. This is usually associated with a “crack” or “pop”, commonly called cavitation, which comes from the release of gas bubbles within the joint fluid. The manipulation is performed with the intention of improving the mobility of an area that can lead to a feeling of “well-being”.
A chiropractic adjustment is applied after an analysis of each vertebra to detect which are the subluxated segments (abnormal movement/position creating interference in the nervous system). The movement is very specific, introducing an appropriate force, isolating the subluxated segment and moving the joint that may or may not produce cavitation.
The chiropractic adjustment is performed with the intention of correcting the vertebral subluxations, restoring the optimal function of the nervous system so that the body can heal itself.
What will I feel after an adjustment?
There are 3 possibilities of how you may feel after your first adjustment:
- You may experience a deep sense of well-being and peace, that your symptoms may suddenly be reduced. Feeling that a great weight has been lifted from your shoulders and you can breathe more deeply.
- You may not notice any change. Even if you still don’t feel better, your body begins to function better and you are one step further in the healing process.
- You may feel tired, or some kind of temporary discomfort. You could even feel a little more emotional than usual. All new sensations are welcome. It is expected to see changes when releasing nerve compressions and experiencing sensations that were previously inhibited and now we become aware of them: we invite you to feel your proprioception and listen to your body.

Frequently asked questions
OUR SERVICES
Frequently asked questions
How many sessions will I need?
The perception of change is different in each person, since each body has its own capacity for expression and recovery. The chiropractor establishes a care plan appropriate to the patient’s needs according to the analysis of the different tests performed during the first visit. Certain symptoms or conditions may be relieved after a few sessions and other more chronic conditions may need up to a year or more to improve.
At Momentum Chiropràctic we emphasize the importance of the frequency of visits to have excellent and long term results.
We monitor your progress with reviews and adapt the care plan as we go along.
How long does a session last?
During the first visit we spend as much time as necessary to collect the necessary information, perform the examination tests and explain in detail the results of these tests along with the recommended plan of care. Depending on the case, this can take between 45 and 60 minutes.
Regular adjustments are difficult to evaluate because a lot depends on what your body needs at this time. On average they last between 10 and 20 minutes.
Is it appropriate for children?
More than appropriate… It is essential! The chiropractors at Momentum have done the relevant trainings and courses to adjust pediatric patients effectively and safely. Each adjustment technique applied is extremely gentle and adapts to the spine of the baby or child.
The main cause of the first subluxation in babies is usually due to childbirth (by the use of forceps, vacuum cups or any birth considered traumatic).
Many parents choose to examine their children to correct any problems related to the health of the spine and skull. The fact of identifying these types of problems at an early age helps the correct development of the nervous system and to prevent the appearance of health complications in adult ages.
Some of the benefits that chiropractic brings to pediatric patients are
- The relief of ear infections
- Infant Colic
- Constipation
- Improving sleep patterns
- Nocturnal Enuresis
- Asthma
- Scoliosis
- Neurological disorders
What chriporactic adjustments do you use?
There are a wide variety of adjustment techniques in the profession. At Momentum Quiropràctic we combine a series of techniques so that each patient is welcome and can benefit from chiropractic adjustments with the one that best suits your needs.
Some of the adjustment techniques we use are:
- Diversified Technique: It is the most common manual technique. It is taught at all chiropractic universities around the world.
- Activator method: It is the use of an instrument called an “activator”, which stimulates the subluxed vertebra through an adjustable soft force faster than the hands.
- Sacro-Occipital Technique: It is the technique that focuses on the relationship between the pelvis and the skull. Wedges called “blocks” are used so that one’s body weight is used for the purpose of a correction naturally.
- Toggle Recoil Technique – Hole In One This: is the technique that focuses on adjusting the first and second cervical vertebrae. What best describes the powerful effect that this adjustment has is “turning on the tap”; that is, all the information from the brain can flow freely into the body.
- Gonstead Technique: Chiropractic adjustments with this technique are manual and structural recognized for their great specificity and precision in anatomical contact and impulse.
- Thompson technique: It is a technique that uses the mechanical assistance of the chiropractic table, in order to apply an adjustment with a depth regulated according to the patient’s own weight.
